Imagine your leisurely breakfast on the terrace, sipping your cappuccino amid the sounds of an awakening village. Wander down cobblestone streets lined with perfectly kept traditional homes — you are, after all, in one of Italy’s Unesco World Heritage Sites. Brightly colored bougainvillea climbs over gates and geraniums spill from balconies as you walk by. A nonna hangs laundry overhead and the morning sun kisses your face.

What you’ve discovered is a slice of slow living you never knew you needed. No cars are allowed, and neither are large ships in the harbors. Cinque Terre is ecologically protected and secluded from heavy traffic and industry, making this postcard-perfect area a dreamy respite from the modern world.

This area of the Riviera is compact, and there’s no need to hotel-hop. Our expert itinerary has been operating for over 15 years, and we know a thing or three about what to see and what to skip in this area. Unpack once, as our hotel is ideally located in the historical village of Monterosso. Our hotel has been hosting us for 10 years, and we’re right in the center of everything: shopping, restaurants, services, the beach, the church, and the main piazza. You’ll love your home away from home, a pedestrian-friendly town that is safe and quiet, and an ideal base to explore the surrounding cities and villages with our guides.
At Italian Fix, we blend Italy’s iconic destinations (like the Cinque Terre) with hidden gems you’ve likely never heard of. Our signature “second cities” strategy is why so many people choose to travel with us. We carefully mix well-known locations with lesser-known ones because we understand that 70% of Italy’s foreign tourism is funneled into just 1% of the country. We want our guests to see it all, both the iconic sites and the secondary ones, that capture the spirit of vita lenta (the slow life). We’ll hop on a train to travel the Italian Riviera to Sestri Levante. The train winds along the picturesque coast and in 40 minutes you’ll be in the “City of The Two Seas”. You’ll have free time to explore the historic center and see pastel-colored houses. Browse unique artisanal shops and wander around at your own pace. Stop for a gelato or try the local speciality, focaccia Genovese. Or take a dip in the Bay of Fairytales. From there, we’ll head into the hills to a secret village and dine together at a local trattoria, something an Italian family would do on a Sunday. Our driver takes us home because door-to-door service is also great.
You haven’t fully experienced the Cinque Terre until you’ve cruised the villages from the sea. Capture memories and enjoy a drink as you glide past the colorful, pastel fishing towns. Swim or bob in the clear waters beneath the towering cliffs, and take plenty of photos along the way. This fun experience is a core memory for many guests. This trip is designed to be comfy and accessible for both the non-swimmers and the mermaids.
Visit a private cantina belonging to a vintner who has been making wine here for over five decades. We’ll taste the local whites and prized Sciacchetra, a unique wine from this region. Wines from the Cinque Terre are grown on terraced hillsides and, unlike other Italian wines, are not exported, so enjoying them at the vintner’s cantina is a special experience.
In Italy, food is the culture. The flavors are how you connect with it from the inside. Throughout this trip, you’ll experience it from different angles: from sunset aperitivo, apericena on the beach, a local trattoria in the hills and a cooking experience at our friend’s villa. You’ll sit where Italians sit, eat what they eat and slow down into the coastal rhythm. While everyone can visit restaurants, being with insiders means you experience the best ones and also get to dine at our friends’ homes.

Today we venture to Levanto — where Italian tourists like to spend their summers. You’ll spend some time in the town, before heading to our friend's place for an afternoon of cooking, eating and relaxing at her lovely villa. After lunch, we return to our home base of Monterosso. You have the option to visit our favorite beach club (crack open a book, dip your toes into the water) or wander the village to discover the shops (or nap at home!). You have a free evening. Day trip! We head to Sestri Levante on a scenic train ride along the coast. You’ll have free time to explore this under-the-radar Ligurian seaside village. You can choose to browse at local shops or wander the streets of this upbeat town in a glorious coastal area. From here, we’ll head up to a hill village we keep secret for an amazing dinner. Our driver takes us back to Monterosso after dinner. Sleep: Monterosso
It’s another beautiful day in paradise, and we have another exclusive event arranged specially for Italian Fix guests. We head out to Vernazza — considered the most picturesque of the five villages. We wander up into our friend’s house perched above town where we have tastings of local wines at his private cantina. We’ll catch lunch at the piazza and watch the boats come in. Sleep: Monterosso
You can’t come to the Cinque Terre on the breathtaking Italian Riviera and not go out on the water. Lounge about and take in the spectacular views from our private boat. During our excursion, we’ll visit secret swim spots along the Mediterranean waters and enjoy lunch on board. I met my Italian husband in these villages over 20 years ago. We met in the harbor of Riomaggiore, where you’ll also visit. You’ll instantly get a sense of the magic and beauty of these places because the lens through which we’ve curated this trip is one of togetherness, belonging, traditions, and stories.
Anyone can visit these villages, but without someone to share the nuance, most leave with only a postcard version of the place. My personal roots here are why this trip exists at all — and why it has been our longest-running experience since 2011.
When I envisioned this week in Italy, I aimed to create a trip based on the heart and soul of this land. I asked myself what I’d want to do with my best friend if she were visiting and could never come back. The result is an itinerary filled with highlights, secret spots, and insider access. Thanks to years of development and energy, and team members who live here, you get a very special week that is totally unique. No one does the Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera like us!

First off, we speak Italian! We also understand the context, the customs, and the community of every location we visit. In Europe, it’s not what you know — it’s who you know. And we know people.
We’re a small company that serves just 200 guests per year. You can read more about us here. By comparison, most tour operators are massive — some serve about 30,000 people a year! That’s not who we are — we’re female-owned and getting to know each of our travelers by name is super important! We truly want to get to know you.
