POST ON YOUR DREAMBOARD
Biblioteca Marucelliana, Florence. This building may not look like much on the outside, but this Florentine treasure will take your breath away once you step inside. Opened in 1752, this library was founded as a place to hold general knowledge accessible to everyone in society (something actually quite novel at the time). Since it is mandatory that all books published in Florence be registers and deposited here, the library now holds around 40,000 volumes, 2,000 manuscripts, and 10,000 letters and documents. Even if you don’t plan to read much while you’re here, just to stand in the presence of such history is an experience not to be missed. If you’re lucky maybe you’ll gain some wisdom through osmosis. And the smell of all those old books!
MANGIAMO
For those of you who don’t already know about the chain Eataly – you’re in for a treat. This restaurant/import market/cooking school has eight locations in the US (they also have locations in Canada, Europe, and beyond for our readers who aren’t stateside). Since we can’t all go traveling to Italy right now, at least we can take our tastebuds on a journey. Heck, they even offer online shopping and delivery, so if you’re staying close to home, you can get that DOP-certified Grana Padano delivered right to your door.
WHAT WE’RE LOVING RIGHT NOW
If you read last week’s newsletter, you know that there are murmurings about borders to Italy potentially opening up this summer. Of course we’ve all learned from this last year that the winds can shift and nothing is set in stone. We want to make sure that you don’t miss out on any of the news about potential travel dates. If you haven’t contacted us already and are wanting to be on the special list to hear about 2021 trips — send us an email at ciao{@}italianfix.com and we’ll zip you the deets.
WISH WE WERE HERE
