Southern Italy

Our daydreams often take us to Southern Italy…

Sun-bleached loungers, pink and peach buildings, and sparkling turquoise seas.

Ancient “I’ve never heard of these” cities with cream-colored laneways carved out of prehistoric rock.
Baroque churches with sandstone cherubs peering down into pretty piazzas.
This is the mezzogiorno, where everything feels warmer, slower, more ethereal. The tomatoes are juicier here, and the vibe is earthy, exuberant, luscious.
So Italian Fix is heading down south again this summer, because the chilled limoncello isn’t going to drink itself.
And we’d like to personally invite you to join in the memory making!

Just show up. We have everything planned for you.

You’ll sleep in Sorrento >
Matera > Lecce

This coast-to-coast itinerary follows Southern Italy’s must see highlights.

Southern Italy is where you go when you’re looking for something different than the usual suspects. Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan — you’ve been there done that, and now you want to get off the beaten track.

You’ll travel a tried-and-true itinerary that our guests love. All of the cities and towns we visit have been carefully chosen for their variety and uniqueness. As Italy experts, we believe these places embody the feeling that modern travelers crave, but we know how complex it can be visiting them without guides who speak the language.
You’ll travel from the west coast to the east coast and experience cities, small villages, beaches, countryside and some lesser-known Italian destinations.
We’ll be staying in sunny Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast; Matera in Basilicata — the European Capital of Culture in 2019; and Lecce, the Florence of the South, right at the tip of Italy’s heel in Puglia.
Getting to know Italy with the help of the deep personal contacts our guides have access to is essential to having an amazing Italian experience.

Why would you visit Italy alone?

Travel with us and tap into The Italian Fix Factor.

We Speak Italian

Which means you’ll never struggle with directions or the menu, or with anything! Don’t let not knowing the language keep you from a true Italian experience.

We have decades worth of experience living, working and traveling Italy, which means we know what it takes to have a good time here. Now you will too.

Fierce Love

We’ve got your back. We protect our people, serve our people and love our people. You travel with a unicorn-powered forcefield of fierce love around you. Nobody effs with fierce love.

In Italy, connections are everything. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. We’ve nurtured amazing relationships with locals over the years — you’ll meet them because we’re friends. You’ll also get top-notch food, service and smiles because you’re with us.

Italian Family

We have roots and homes in Italy. We leverage family and personal networks to deliver you value and safety.

Heart-Centered Service

You’re not a reservation number — you’re an honored guest and you can count on us. We’ve built this business from nothing to sold-out-in-hours tours because we truly care about people.

The Friend Factor

Ever dreamt about jet-setting with a stylish well-traveled friend who knows the best food, cocktails and shopping in a drop-dead gorgeous place? A friend who’s positive, uplifting and makes you laugh but who’s also super grounded and drama-free? Now you can.

Gold Standard

You know what sucks rocks? Subpar food, lackluster service and treating tourists like dollar signs. There are tons of tourist traps in Italy and you need to know how to avoid rip-offs (on hotels, meals, taxis and events). We don’t touch dud businesses with a ten-foot pole.

Best of Both

We really “get” you. We know what you want to see, do and experience in Italy because we were travelers here once too. But now we get the nuances and navigate like locals. This unique perspective gives you a “best of both worlds” experience.

This is a vacation… with benefits.

Right now, if eating Ben & Jerry’s in bed is the highlight of your week, then listen up, ‘cause ten days absorbing the sheer beauty of Southern Italy might be your escape.

Renewed inspiration and fulfillment.

Connecting to inspiration fuels a happy, healthy lifestyle. The most successful people in the world constantly pursue inspiration and purpose. Feeling inspired infuses your life with joy and meaning. Those who seek inspiration find it.

Live your life, right now.

Too many people save travel for retirement, but traveling requires good health, which you likely possess right now. If you have dreams, don’t put them on hold for some distant future that might never come. When you look back at your life in five years, what do you want to see? Ambitions reached or dreams put out to pasture?

Increased health and energy.

Immerse yourself in an exotic and safe Southern Italian experience. Every day you’ll eat a Mediterranean diet full of fresh vegetables and local seafood or meat. We’ll also be walking daily, surrounded by nature or gorgeous architecture, and swimming in the sea too.

Be taken care of.

Are you blessed with a full life?
Got work? Deadlines? Chores? Kids? To do lists comin’ out the wazoo? Do you feel like you’re always “giving” but have very little time for yourself? We thought so, and we get it. What if, just for a change, someone were to take care of you? Well, that’s our job. We want you to kick back and leave the planning to us. Because you need time to think about more important things — like if you’re gonna drink a third cappuccino at breakfast.

Connect to a more carefree version of yourself.

When did we all get so busy? And tired? In a work-obsessed culture, busy is glorified, and financial wealth is superior to emotional or spiritual wealth. But this trip is about putting inner wealth and health first. Who doesn’t need more time to connect with the person you’re meant to be?

  • Day 1
You’ll be in Vacation Mode the instant you’re in our care, because we have all the details handled. All you need to do is sink into the Dolce Zone — that special state of mind that Italian Fix clients get to experience. No need to puzzle over schedules and schlep luggage onto trains and ferries. Our driver will collect you from Naples and bring you directly to your Sorrento hotel. The view from here is quintessential Amalfi Coast — a cliffside abloom with pastel buildings all the way down to the turquoise sea. That night we’ll have a welcome dinner and you’ll meet your new famiglia italiana — your guides and the other adventurous souls who have raised their hands to journey with you on this exclusive experience through Southern Italy. You’ll end the night on a high, buzzing from the new friends you’ve met (and possibly the local limoncello). At our first Italian meal together, you can sit back and feel your shoulders sink. You’re really on the Amalfi Coast, and you really have another eight nights of this wonderfulness ahead! Sleep: Sorrento
  • Day 2
Today you’ll have a super relaxing three-cappuccino morning. You can recharge in the Italian sunshine and dedicate yourself completely to wellness and feeling good. We’ll transfer you to the spa, where you’ll be able to recoup and relax. This extra rest will energize you and set you up perfectly for traveling Italy — our team will arrange your treatment and reservations in advance. If you’re not the hang-around-at-the-spa type and are itching for some action instead, our guide has a beautiful walking tour of Sorrento planned for you. In the afternoon we’ll head down the coast to gorgeous Positano by private transfer. You’ll have the chance to shop, swim or just people-watch in a café. Dinner is with your Italian Fix family at our fave Positano ristorante that overlooks this picture-postcard village. Sleep: Sorrento
  • Day 3
Coastal cruise and the beauty of the Amalfi Coast — check! Today we float to the island of Capri, where stylish boutiques and chic cafés compete for your attention with the stunning natural beauty of the island. And don’t worry, we won’t leave Anacapri without a ride on the chairlift to grab some classic Capri photos! This exclusive day trip that is designed to maximize your precious time on the island so that you can truly experience the magic that makes this destination so famous in the first place. Sleep: Sorrento
  • Day 4
Today we begin our journey into the heart of Italy, where we’ll spend a few nights in the country’s oldest city. Many people simply don’t venture into this part of Italy — in fact, you’ll see very few foreign travelers in this area. But before we explore roads blazed by the Greeks in 450 BC, we’ll go and eat some cheese. Because, well, #italy. The farm we visit is pretty amazing, and not just because they play classical music to the animals there (these guys are serious about their mozzarella). One bite and you’ll understand why Italians come here in droves and leave with coolers full of the stuff. We’ll enjoy a private lunch prepared specially for our clients, and then make our way to one of the most otherworldly places you’ll ever see — Matera. This clay-colored city made up of rock-hewn cave dwellings will make you feel like you’ve been transported two thousand years back in time. It’s a Unesco World Heritage Site and in 2019 was named the European Capital of Culture. Our hotel is in the historical part of the city, and you’ll be steps away from restaurants, shops and the stunning natural beauty of this you’ve-got-to-see-it-to-believe-it city. Sleep: Matera
  • Day 5
Wander through Matera’s tangle of winding streets, or sit at a sidewalk café with a caffe latte and a great novel. Whatever you do, take in every last drop of this ancient place. In the evening we’ll explore the creamy stone laneways of Matera on an Ape Calessino tour, and gather to partake in the unique tradition that is Italian aperitivo culture. If you’re anything like us, you’ll start seeking out real estate signs in town and begin imagining yourself living out your retirement in your very own Italian villa. You know you could get used to a life like this! Sleep: Matera
  • Day 6
We continue our Southern Italy journey by heading into the heart of Puglia, Italy’s most up-and-coming destination. Once the poorest part of the country, this region is now in every magazine, blog and guidebook — come before it’s been bought up by the Clooneys! Today we pass through an area inhabited since the Paleolithic Age and visit a town known for the beautiful ceramics you’ll see throughout the area. You’ll have a chance to order custom dishes with your family’s initials, or just raid the seconds shelf for incredible deals before they hit the high-end boutiques in the U.S. The last stop of the day, and the last stop on our Southern Italy tour, is Lecce. Sleep: Lecce
  • Day 7
Today you’ll soak in all the beauty that is Lecce, the Florence of the South, at the very tip of Italy’s heel. This city is baroque extravagance at its best, full of spiraled columns and gargoyles. We’ll explore the countryside and some of the smaller Puglian villages, like Ostuni, a crown of white buildings spread out over three hills overlooking the Adriatic. Lunch is at a local masseria on a stunning property surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Sleep: Lecce
  • Day 8
This is our last day in Italy together so we’ve curated a beautiful private event for you at a local’s studio. We’ll make a meal together, drink some Puglian wines and connect over food and music. Since you’re pretty much Italian now, making food, listening to live music, and tossing your head back as you dance the pizzica — a popular Italian folk dance from this area — is totally normal. Don’t worry, what happens in Italy stays in Italy. Sleep: Lecce
  • Day 9
This is departure and check-out day. We’ll provide you with a private transfer to Brindisi airport for your flight or if you’re staying in Italy longer, to the train station or your hotel. Whatever your plans, our team will have everything handled so you can confidently get to where need to go.

Are you coming?

If you’ve already done the usual Italy circuit, it’s time to #travelsouth.

Southern Italy has long been neglected in favor of hot spots like Rome, Florence, and Venice, and more recently the Cinque Terre, which is precisely the hook.
We want this trip to be magical, so we’re blazing a path through unique territory along our Southern Italian route. The tour has been designed carefully, with a mix of seaside, countryside, and non-touristy cities. It’s definitely not a route you would do on your own without speaking Italian. Your private guides and drivers will lead you through the backroads, the customs, and the quirks of this enchanting land. And the FOOD in the South of Italy is silly good. Get your taste buds ready for that.
The South of Italy can feel like you’ve landed in another millennium — or on another planet! But being on an Italian Fix tour is like traveling with friends, so you’ll feel right at home. Because our trips are less about museum line-ups and more about feeling good.
Which means being surrounded by great people in great places. It’s not science — it’s an art that sets us apart. This is a small group trip, maximum 14 guests, and your private driver and small Mercedes van will be for our exclusive use.

Your investment.

Private Facebook Group

You’ll receive an invitation to join our private Facebook Group for registered guests only. Connect to others before you go, ask us questions and maintain friendships when you return.

Hassle-Saving Factor

One hub for all your Italy trip needs.

There are plenty of tour groups of fifty people traveling around Europe in a big bus.

We’ve limited our Southern Italy tour to 14 guests. We want you to feel like you’re traveling with friends, not a sports team.

Sure, we could pack dozens of people on this trip like most tour companies would (we have had hundreds of people sign up for the interest list).
But this is group travel for people who don’t normally go on tours. We want you to travel Italy beautifully, so we keep our numbers low. We know small group travel is a great balance of fun and ease, and it’s better than traveling alone. The reality is that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill group travel experience — it’s personalized service from a caring team.

Here are the perks of traveling in our bubble

  • 1It’s so much more fun than traveling alone.
  • 2It’s easier than organizing everything because we handle all the planning.
  • 3You cultivate new friends and worldwide connections.
  • 4 You have the luxury of drivers and guides helping you with everything.
  • 5 When you go on a trip, do you normally hire experts for day trips who know the locals and have the lowdown on what exactly to see/do/eat while you’re there?

The truth is, we have a special knack for attracting positive, generous and amazing people from around the globe to join us in Italy. Our guests always comment that they’re not normally group travel people, but they’re surprised how Italian Fix makes travel easy and fun.
Which is why we’re limiting guests to 14 on this Southern Italy tour.

Is this trip right for you?

Have you already been to Italy?

Sweet… so you know how amazing it is. But think of how amazing it could be when you travel with someone who knows the language, knows the locals and knows all the secret spots. Unless you’ve traveled with an Italian friend and stayed at their home, it’s almost impossible to not feel like a tourist in Italy. We offer an alternative to that.

Will this be your first trip to Italy?

Then you’ll love the safety of the group, the ease of having all your hotels, transportation, activities and meals sorted out for you. You’ll love that you won’t have to worry about getting lost, getting ripped off, hassling with foreign currency or trying to communicate in Italian. We take care of everything.

This trip isn’t for everyone.

It IS for you if:

  • You gravitate towards insider knowledge — you value traveling with someone who knows the ropes.
  • You enjoy eating, walking, and off-the-beaten-path ideas. You like holidays near the sea but also enjoy the city.
  • You love to have a great time and are open to meeting others.
  • You appreciate having someone else think of the logistics, and having the security of a private driver.

This trip is NOT for you if:

  • You’re extremely rigid in your habits, or you want things to be like they are at home. If that’s the case, Southern Italy (or anywhere in Italy) is not the place for you because the Italian lifestyle can be very different from what you’re used to. (If you’re open to new experiences, our bilingual guides will translate the quirkier aspects of Italian life for you.)
  • You don’t like Italian food. That is what we’ll be eating. Every day. If you’re a vegetarian, or on a restricted diet (like no wheat), we have yummy options for you.
  • You have mobility issues and can’t manage two flights of stairs. One of our hotels is incredibly unique, built within the ancient cave dwellings of Matera’s “Sassi” (Google the images!) — getting to it means a five-minute walk. Not to worry, we do have a porter who will bring your bags! But if you find walking tough, then the Sicily trip is more suited to you.
  • You are looking for a luxury travel experience, with 5-star accommodations and white glove service. We are not that company, and while we choose our hotels very carefully for their character, location and Italian charm, if you see yourself being disappointed by a 3- or 4-star establishment (that doesn’t have 24-hour reception or room service), then this tour is not for you.

My Italian Fix tour was so enjoyable and I am still floating on Cloud 9. My mood has been lifted. Their attention to detail was outstanding, as were their stellar professionalism, the staff, and their knowledge of the region and language. I just couldn’t ask for more from a tour company.

Before I booked, I had been uncertain that a group trip was a good fit for me, but the whole thing was magical. The level of experience was superb and not having to worry about any logistics was priceless. It freed me up to focus on being in the moment.

Great — you’ll fit right in as our guests are looking for something different too. Think of this as a trip planned by a local friend, something you would never be able to pull off on your own. We offer you daily activities but don’t feel pressured to do anything — it’s your trip.
