In Italy castles are a thing. And sleeping inside a castle hotel is also a thing. We’re featuring Castello di Monterone for a few reasons. On the rooftop you have a 360 degree view of the countryside — that’s where we’d suggest you have your morning espresso. We also love this area of Italy. Located near Perugia, along the road to Assisi, the history of Castello di Monterone goes back to the eleventh century. The bedrooms have wooden beamed ceilings, stone walls, so you’ll be getting your zzz’s and channeling the .001% of your royal ancestry.

It might be getting colder, but in Italy we like to follow the sun and that means we’re heading to Naples. What are we loving at this time of year? Hitting up the street food markets in the city center. You can either do this on your own or hire a guide, but in Naples, like in other parts of the South — a guide will help translate all the nuances of dialect and culture you’ll likely miss as a foreigner.

Last week we spoke about Val D’Orcia in Tuscany, and as promised we’ve got a fabulous dinner recommendation for you next time you’re in Siena — La Taverna di San Giuseppe. Located ten minutes from the center of town, this restaurant not only has an extensive history, authentic atmosphere, and attentive staff, but also one of the most amazing menus in town, tried and tested by an Italian Fix staff member. Think freshly shaven truffles on the best steak you’ve ever tasted. If you go to Siena, you simply must eat here. Make a reservation in advance and let us know what you think!
